Pros and Cons of Using Online Backup

First, let’s look at what are online backup services? It’s also called remote backup and it’s an off-site storage that will backup files or hard drives. Remote backup is useful in the event of catastrophic crashes, fire, theft, flood, etc. This service uses a high-speed internet connection that frequently backs up your data at an off-site location. Privacy and security issues are protected with passwords and encryption. There are many companies to choose from and the prices vary. If you are on the fence about remote backup here are some pros and cons to help with your decision.

Pros

Remote backup is separate from your servers. This is the best advantage of online backup. You will have access to your data at any time. This leads to the next pro. You have access from anywhere at any time as long as you have an internet connection. You will be able to restore data even if you’re not at your office. You can still configure the backup to happen at a specific time of day or night or a continuous backup. The choice is up to you and what works best for your office. You can even decide what files will be backed up.

Cons

Because of the amount of information, the transfer time is huge, even if you transfer in small increments. So if you have dial-up it could take you years to transfer data. This is no exaggeration. It’s not dial-up friendly. Also, what happens if the company you are using suddenly goes out of business? It could happen. Make sure your transfers are encrypted, not every company offers this option, check before committing.

Checking Up on the Benefits of Technology

Technology has been with the general public since the 1990′s when the desktop PC’s appeared, and the public began to  take them home. It has radically changed our world in fundamental ways. Has this technological infiltration moved us toward a greater good or is it another toy we play with and throw away when bored?

Technology has made communication increase not only within our patch of the woods, but also across the globe. Communication has become the property of the public instead of a government. The benefits of this shift is enormous. There are many avenues to express your expertise and opinions in multiple formats. It has become so important to the global public that when entities attempt to reign in communication, a firestorm of protest shoots through the network at light speed. And yet, in great wisdom structures have been made within the Internet to allow hubs. This lets groups whose need of constraints do that within that small piece of the Net. A person joins that group voluntarily in most cases. Communication and the Internet live in a paradox in which there is freedom of speech on a global level, while at the same time addressing each individual’s need for rules on their level. Freedom, toleration, and taking care of your brother whether he appreciates it or not. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of your happiness or bliss on your terms.

There are many benefits of technology, but this core belief about free communication is the mother which gives birth to all else that one experiences and sees on the Internet. The fierceness in which the global community protects this is the evidence.

Social Media’s Social Conscience

La Conscience (d'après Victor Hugo)

Social media are tools found on the Internet such as Twitter, Flickr, and Google Buzz. There are many more than those out there in the cyber universe. There sole purpose is to communicate. There are no rules really except what the norms of the group sets. Even then any good Interneter enjoys the surprise of a communication that is ironic, satiric, or in your face. These rebukes usually make one laugh at yourself and society. It is true there is a large portion of chitchat and small talk going on.  Mixed among the small talk is expert advice, deep thinking, and intriguing conversations. In those conversations there is a social conscience that wants to change or save people from suffering, poverty, or evil.

Social conscience is the philosophy you are your brothers and sisters keeper where ever they are at out in the world. Though you may not be able to alleviate the ills of a society on a large scale, you definitely can do it with the individuals you meet in your part of the world or cyberspace. If you pay too much attention to the small talk you might get the sense that social conscience is dying. Social conscience is increasing. Our means of communication as we travel around the globe lets us notify the world of what is seen on the ground in the actual location. It is that initial emotional reaction that we text that gives the world the sense of the situation at hand. No time to rationalize. People react to the text by sharing information about groups that all ready have a solution.

The Successor to the Wii

Everyone wonders when it’ll all stop–new system after new system after new system. The gaming world will never end; face it, it’s the truth. However, one thing’s for sure: you won’t expect any new hardware releases from Microsoft or Sony on that field. With the PlayStation Move and XBOX Kinect as well as three different PlayStation versions and two XBOX models out there, pretty much both of those two platforms are maxed out until they establish the next innovation in gaming technology. One system remains to make one step forward into the gaming world….

And that is the Nintendo Wii.

You’d expect the corporate gaming giant to strike hard against some of Microsoft and Sony’s advancements. The truth is this: you’re absolutely right!

Apparently the news is Nintendo will be announcing a new console at this year’s Electronics Show 2011 in Los Angeles. Surprised? Most aren’t. Moreover, rumor has it this console will be HD capable, matching the quality of the XBOX and PlayStation 3. That’s an exciting thought. After all, the technological capability of both the XBOX and PlayStation did rival that of the Wii; apparently Nintendo’s ready to step it up!

Details on what this new console will include as well as an official name are still unclear. Sources claim this system will debut in late 2012…. Long time to wait. Thankfully, though, you might get some inside info from the Big ‘N’ soon! Watch out for it; Mario’s coming again soon. And he’s definitely taking no prisoners.

Employee Training – Stream Virtual Training Modules On The Intranet For Better Results

This is a photo of Chris Crawford, Management ...

There was a time when employee training meant that the entire organization would be shut down and everybody would be busy in the conference hall. The employer and the trainer would behave like the school headmaster and the employees would behave like errant students who are hell bent on having fun rather than learning anything.

Well, there is no need for you to waste your time or resources in such a manner. Instead, make use of the internet and convert your tutorials and training sessions into a virtual and interactive one. If you have a company intranet, you can stream the videos over the intranet and ensure that each and every employee receives the lessons in his or her cubicle. You can encourage your employees to work together but that would be strictly on an informal basis.

If you want to streamline the process of training your employees and want to ensure that they are trained even before they join office, you can obtain contact information of potential employees and offer your training modules to those who have been appointed. You can encourage the employees to go through the training modules over the internet so that they are prepared to start work in a productive and efficient manner from their first day.

Just consider the costs and benefits involved. If you employ a sum total of five employees, going in for a company intranet just to stream the videos to five persons who work together does not make sense. You can use technological solutions but make sure you compare the costs and benefits to avoid losing money on something as important as employee training.

Today it is no secret that social media is important. For businesses, many have taken the importance of social media in stride with the company’s vision. As a result, many businesses reap the rewards of this visibility, yet few are truly making their mark.

Social media is not just another ordinary outlet for a business. It should not be just another way to provide information and sales, though this is to be encouraged with everything else in place. There is a bold difference between businesses that set themselves apart on social networks than those that do not.

Personality is one key feature of social media for businesses. The idea of social media is, in a way, to encourage expression, conversations, and a higher level of interaction. If your business is active on social networks, do your best to connect to your customers and fans. Listening and learning from your audience is just as important as answering questions, providing information, and the “normal” things that your business can do in other areas (your website, email, etc.).

Maintain this active dialogue with customers as well as other companies. This will help to establish a real connection with your customers. Then you will be able to offer advice, product information, or even refer them to companies that you have established connections with – to further the relationship between your business and valued customers.

Go above and beyond the average business on social media sites such as Facebook. Your customers will appreciate the personality that is able to shine with regards to these platforms.

What is Cloud Technology?

Cloud computing involves anything that delivers hosted services over the Internet. Such technology is typically used by small businesses looking to gain the information technology experience without paying the IT price. There are essentially three types of computing technology that includes Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). While IaaS is for companies that do not have an information technology department or basis, PaaS and SaaS technologies are geared towards companies that need their IT infrastructures advanced or modified. Cloud computing differs from the average host site and comes with myriad more benefits.

The central characteristic that makes cloud services different from the average host site is its versatility. Unlike some hosting websites, subscribers to cloud computing can choose the amount of service they desire without being forced into a binding contract. A subscriber can change their subscription at any given time without fear of penalty.

Another unique characteristic associated with cloud technology is its ability to be sold in real time. Contrary to the typical IT device, cloud services are available to subscribers immediately after purchase and at their convenience. The ability to purchase the service at the subscriber’s convenience is what makes cloud technology different from other hosting sites.

The benefits of cloud computing are vast for customer and business alike. While the customer has access to a help desk 24 hours a day, the business subscribing to cloud services has the ability to utilize programs and software that normally requires employment of IT specialists. Versatility and cost effectiveness are two concepts that can be associated with cloud technology.
