As more students are enrolling in online courses, they may notice a huge change on the college or university campus. Many colleges are making the switch from having numerous traditional classrooms to having hundreds of smart classrooms. With a lot of college campuses making this switch, it makes many people wonder: what exactly is a smart classroom?
The term smart classroom refers to any classroom that offers students and teachers easy access to technology. The technology that is offered in the classroom will vary depending upon what the college invested in technology. However, there are basic technological components that are found in almost every smart classroom. These elements include WiFi or Internet access, projectors that have laptop hookups and audio visual equipment like TVs, monitors and DVD players. Some colleges also offer online courses for students who work during the day, or simply prefer to take the course online.
While there are basic technological elements that are found in every smart classroom, some smart classrooms go above and beyond in terms of technology. These smart classrooms offer the latest and greatest educational equipment to students and teachers. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of the equipment, colleges are either unable to afford such technology or only have a handful of classrooms that have this type of smart technology. Examples of some of the most up to date technological equipment that can be found in some smart classrooms include interactive whiteboards, interactive desktops or table tops and white screens for showing movies, DVDs or presentations.
Due to the high cost of smart classrooms, many college campuses are making the switch from traditional classrooms to smart classrooms slowly. Some college campuses only have a dozen smart classrooms that are able to be used by any class that requests the use of the room. Math and science classes are also making the switch to smart classrooms.
